Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNnURM)

The Government of India have launched the massive housing programme under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission with submission BSUP & IHSDP. The mission period is 7 years commencing from 2005-2006. The Commissioner of Municipal Administration has been designated as the Nodal agency by the Government of Tamil Nadu for implementing JNNURM in Tamil Nadu. Under BSUP, TNSCB has programmed to take up the construction of multi-storeyed tenements with infrastructures in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore cities. The programme is funded as follows.  

GOI share – 50%
GoTN share – 40%
Beneficiaries share – 10%

CONSTRUCTION OF TENEMENTS:
The tenements are provided with internal water supply, sanitary and electrification facilities and in addition lift arrangements

DEVELOPMENT WORKS:
Basic infrastructure facilities such as Water supply, sewerage, road, street lights, ration shops, community hall, vocational training center, pre-school, milk booth, police station etc., are also provided.

TNSCB has programmed to construct 42318 tenements at an outlay of Rs.2393.98 cr. in the three cities as follows.
 1. CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board has formulated scheme proposals for taking up 3 schemes in Chennai. This programme envisages construction of 29864 tenements at a cost of Rs.1775.60 Cr.

The beneficiaries are being identified by the Chennai Corporation and the beneficiary share is being collected from the beneficiaries.
Out of the 29864 tenements sanctioned, works completed for 12000 units and 17864 tenements are nearing completions and the above works will be completed before 30.06.2016. So far 10436 tenements were allotted and the allotment of the remaining tenements is in progress.
2. MADURAI:
It is proposed to construct 1566 tenements at Rajakkur Periyar Nagar / Madurai to resettle the slum families living in the objectionable location within Madurai Corporation. This programme envisages construction of 1566 tenements at a cost of Rs.47.76 Cr. The works completed and allotted to all beneficairies

3. COIMBATORE:
It is proposed to take up 3 schemes in Coimbatore at Ukkadam Ammankulam and Ukkadam phase III for resettling the slum families living in the objectionable location within Coimbatore Corporation. This programme envisages construction of 10888 tenements at a cost of Rs.570.63 Cr.

Out of the 10888 tenements sanctioned, works completed for 4696 units and 6032 tenements are nearing completions and 160 tenements are in progress and all the above works will be completed before 31.12.2016. So far 792 tenements were allotted and the allotment of the remaining tenements is in progress.
